First entering the music business with partner Art Garfunkel. While at first they had success with the hit "Hey, Schoolgirl" in 1957, they took a break from making music shortly after. Simon went to college and after he and Garfunkel first recorded what would become their biggest hit 'Sound of Silence' in 1964 but it failed to sell at that time. They separated once more and Simon created a solo album. Finally Tom Wilson, a producer, added some electric instrumentation to 'Sound of Silence' and changed the name to 'The Sounds of Silence' and voila the album sold like crazy. Simon and Garfunkel became the hottest recording duo from 1965-1970. After that the two split up due to musical differences. Simon went on to record and tour as a solo artist transitioning from the folk-rock style to incorporating more Latin, jazz and reggae into his sound. He had such hits as 'Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard' and others off successful masterpieces like the album 'Graceland'.
